General Questions

What are the requirements for admissions ?

Admission requirements vary based on the level of the course or programme. Specialized programmes will have additional requirements.

Does ACC offer payment plans?

Yes. Persons who would like to pay for their programme or course fees in installments are required to meet with the Finance Department to determine and set up the payment plan.

Are the courses and programmes offered by ACC accredited?

The majority of the short courses and programmes offered by ACC are accredited. Some of the accrediting bodies are Pearson BTEC, American Hotel and Lodging Education Institute, Barbados Community College, University of the West Indies, Chartered Management Institute, University of the West Indies, American Hotel & Lodging Education Institute, The University of the Virgin Island and Caribbean Tourism Learning System.

Does ACC offer distance learning?

At this time, ACC does not offer distance learning, but preparations are being made to begin doing so.

What are the advantages of going to a community college?

One of the biggest advantages of going to community college is the cost. Community college is more affordable than most four-year institutions.  Many community colleges are two-year institutions where you can earn an associate degree to prepare you for a career or for matriculation into universities. 

If I have to withdraw from classes, can I get a refund on the fees that I paid?

Refund of fees depends largely on various factors, including medical. Discretions will be used based on the circumstances. Registration fees however are non-refundable.

Will my transcripts continue to be transmitted to other colleges and universities if my goal is to transfer?

Yes, there should be no disruption to transcript requests or deliveries during this health crisis.  Colleges are ensuring that they have staff, either working on campus or from their homes, that will continue to provide essential services.  There may be slight delays during the first several weeks of transitioning to work off-site, but transcripts will continue to be sent upon request.

ACC PROGRAMMES

The Anguilla Community College offers specialized courses and programmes to meet the private and public sector needs.  These courses and programmes offer a personalized learning experience that empowers learners to pursue their academic interests, achieve their goals, and develop the skills they need to succeed in their chosen field. The course content, structure, and learning activities are customized to fit the unique requirements of the workforce. This may involve selecting specific topics, materials, textbooks, and resources that align with the student’s interests and goals.

BTEC PROGRAMMES

BTEC prepare students for a career that is skill-based and future-ready. BTEC offers practical, hands-on learning experiences with necessary skills that support each learner at every phase of their career journey, ranging from foundational learning to professional courses at the postgraduate level. Whether they opted to pursue higher education or go right into the workforce after receiving their skills. Established in the United Kingdom, BTEC is an examination body that provides globally recognised credentials via Edexcel, the United Kingdom’s leading issuer of academic and vocational credentials. As part of the Pearson Group, which also includes other well-known names in publishing, media, and education, Edexcel is a member.

CAPE

The Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE) is designed to provide certification of the academic, vocational and technical achievement of students in the Caribbean who, having completed a minimum of five years of secondary education, wish to further their studies. The examinations address the skills and knowledge acquired by students under a flexible and articulated system where subjects are organized in one-unit or two-unit courses with each Unit containing three Modules. Subjects examined under CAPE may be studied concurrently or singly.

CTLS

The Caribbean Tourism Learning System (CTLS) is a framework that allows regional institutions to provide competency-based training within the hospitality and tourism sectors. The Caribbean Tourism Learning System facilitates the Caribbean’s strategic and well-coordinated approach to tourism and hospitality education and training. The CTLS seeks to improve the professionalism of tourism employees to make them more globally competitive and compliant with international standards. In accordance with the CTLS requirements, the Anguilla Community College provides associate degree programmes and certificate

ECJBTE

Eastern Caribbean Joint Board of Teacher Education (ECJBTE) is the top Eastern certification authority for educators. ECJBTE certifies teachers in Early Childhood Education, Primary Education, Secondary Education (with specialisation in the teaching of English, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, History, Geography, Business, and Modern Languages), and Technical and Vocational Education (Industrial Arts and Home Economics), the JBTE is the leading certifying body for teachers in the member countries. The two-year programmes, governed by the JBTE, grant successful students an Associate Degree in Education (ADE). The University of the West Indies (UWI) Board of Undergraduate Studies recognises this certification as the equal of Year 1 (Level 1) of the Bachelor of Education degree.

CSEC

The Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) subjects are examined for certification at the General and Technical Proficiencies. The General and Technical Proficiencies provide students with the foundation for further studies and entry to the workplace.
