The Technical Vocational 6th Form is based at the Anguilla Community College. The programme offerings are currently limited to two choices, Construction or Hospitality. The programme includes Functional Skills in English, Mathematics and ICT. Work Skills are now an integral part of the subject programmes. Some Units of the subjects are delivered at the College, and some are delivered at ALHCS in evening sessions.
Certification of skills particularly in the Construction and Hospitality fields across various levels has been a long term goal of the TVET Council. Additionally, the TVET Council has grappled with the challenge of facilitating certification at a number of places including ALHCS (which includes WISE), in the workplace and at the Anguilla Community College. With the designation of Anguilla Community College as a Pearson BTEC (Business and Technology Education Centre) Qualifications centre, this desired goal is underway.
BTEC Qualifications are accredited and internationally recognised and are offered in more than 85 countries with over a million people registering for a qualification. These qualifications go through rigorous quality assurance processes and established benchmarks and are supported by more than 5,000 standard qualifications across a number of sectors, including Agriculture, Fashion and Textiles, Sport and Vehicle Technology in addition to the Construction and Hospitality mentioned previously.
BTEC First (Level 2) subjects are given similar weight as a pass in CSEC programmes. These subjects are based on practical assignments completed in a number of ways: written, oral, demonstration. The subjects also provide the foundation to continue onto the next level – BTEC Nationals (Level 3) which are approximately the same as a CAPE subject pass.
The programme is open to persons who just completed Fifth Form.
